Former Leader of Azerbaijani Diaspora and Son Convicted in Yekaterinburg

The Kirov District Court of Yekaterinburg has concluded the trial of Shahin Shikhlynski, the former leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora, and his son, Mutvali Shikhlynski, on charges of using violence against a representative of the authorities. The court has recognized them guilty, sentencing the father to 9 years in strict regime imprisonment, while the son received an 8-year sentence in a general regime prison.

It is noteworthy that this is not Shahin Shikhlynski's first conviction. Earlier, in early March of this year, he was sentenced to 22 years in prison on charges of murder and attempted murder. Following the emergence of new criminal elements, the court reviewed the sentence, applying the principle of partial accumulation of penalties. As a result, Shahin Shikhlynski will serve a total of 24 years in confinement.

According to the court's decision, he will spend the first 4 years in prison, with the remainder of his sentence spent in a strict regime correctional colony. The judicial ruling has come into force from the moment of its publication.
