NATO Secretary General Explains Why He Called Trump 'Daddy'
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has addressed the use of the term 'daddy' in reference to Donald Trump, linking it to linguistic nuances. In a conversation with reporters, he noted that it was a matter of translation difficulties rather than a personal characterization.
Rutte explained that in Dutch, the phrase ‘your father’ can sometimes be rendered as ‘daddy,’ and he used this formulation to highlight that a leader can sometimes be strict. He emphasized that he did not intend to call Trump that in a personal or emotional sense.
The Secretary General also acknowledged that the word 'daddy' can carry different connotations in English, leading to various interpretations. He mentioned that the situation has become a topic of discussion, and he is now compelled to 'live with the consequences of that phrase.'
At the same time, Rutte noted that Trump also responded to the incident by releasing a video, which he referred to as humorous. Rutte highlighted that he appreciates the U.S. President for such reactions.
