How Will the EU Finance Ukraine?
The European Union will allocate €80 million to Ukraine from the revenues generated from Russia's frozen assets. This was announced by the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, during a press conference in Kyiv.
Borrell stated that the EU has also completed preparations for the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. He emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen, rather than weaken, pressure on Moscow to achieve a cessation of hostilities.
He added that new measures will specifically target Russia's so-called 'shadow fleet.' The head of European diplomacy stressed that the EU continues to gather international support to prepare Ukraine for the upcoming winter, including the supply of generators and other necessary equipment to ensure the stable operation of energy and civil infrastructure.
Borrell also highlighted the importance of further strengthening Ukraine's air defense. In his assessment, bolstering the country's defense capabilities remains one of the top priorities for European support.
