Clashes Resume at Pakistan-Afghanistan Border
Clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan have resumed following the end of a festive ceasefire. According to Bloomberg, a representative from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tahir Andrabi, stated that the operation will continue until the previously set objectives are achieved.
He noted that Islamabad has demanded the Taliban government in Kabul to tighten measures against militants who, according to Pakistan, are operating and planning attacks against its territory. However, the Afghan side has denied these accusations.
Simultaneously, Afghan Taliban officials reported that border clashes resumed on Wednesday following the expiration of the ceasefire. According to the Associated Press, two people have been killed and several others wounded as a result of the skirmishes.
It is worth mentioning that tensions over disputed border areas have been ongoing for nearly a month. The fighting had been halted from March 19 to 24 in observance of the Ramadan festivities, following requests from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. Prior to the ceasefire, there were reports that Pakistan had conducted airstrikes on a medical facility in Kabul, resulting in around 400 casualties. Pakistan has denied these claims, stating that it targeted militant hideouts.
