Iran's Conflict Threatens Global Energy Security, Zakharova
The ongoing tension surrounding Iran poses a threat to rising oil prices and global energy security. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, according to Kommersant.
She noted that the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East has destabilized the oil and gas markets and has already caused significant damage to the global economy.
It is important to mention that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has intensified following the commencement of military operations by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. During the attacks in June, Iran had threatened to close the shipping route, and as of late February this year, it had effectively restricted navigation in that area.
The crisis has led to a sharp rise in fuel prices.
