Scandal in the European Parliament: MPs Struggle to Locate Iran on Map

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) were unable to locate Iran on a world map, mistaking it for Turkey and other countries in the Middle East. This was reported by Le Parisien.

In early March, a correspondent from TMC conducted a survey among MEPs in Strasbourg for the Quotidien program. He presented politicians with a world map that did not label the countries and asked them to point out Iran.

The French Minister of European Affairs indicated the Strait of Hormuz, while Socialist Party MEP Emma Rafovitch confused Iran with Bulgaria, and Renaissance Party MEP Fabien Keller mistook the republic for Turkey. “As for Green Party MEP Marie Toussaint, after a long hesitation, she chose Afghanistan. Another Green MEP, David Cormand, believed he found the answer by pointing to Saudi Arabia,” Le Parisien reported.

Co-chair of the “Disobedient France” party, Manon Aubrin, correctly answered the journalist's question. Later, she remarked that such mistakes would be laughable if the European Parliament did not have to make decisions regarding U.S. military actions in Iran. “Now I understand better why some are reluctant to condemn those actions,” she wrote on her social media page.
