The People Must Send All Oligarchs and Former Officials Packing, Says Avinyan
The Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, during a speech at a city council meeting, accused the opposition of relying too heavily on lies. "You are trying to manifest in a dark environment, Mr. Sukiasyan, your speech is a vivid example of this. You again take out some segmental data from a few lines and say, ‘Here it is 60%, there it is 70% performance,’" Avinyan said, emphasizing that the revenue performance of Yerevan's 2025 budget is 109%, while the performance of the city hall's expenditures stands at 90%.
He further stated that the opposition claims certain programs are not being implemented properly: "Which ones are not done well? Are the elevators not installed properly? 500 elevators have been replaced, and in recent years, 2560. We have carried out unprecedented renovation work in Yerevan."
The mayor declared that the scope of work is very large; there have been successes in many areas and slowdowns in others. However, he noted that the issue is not just urban problems but also heavily political. "On June 7, residents of Yerevan and the people of Armenia must send all oligarchs and representatives of the former government pack their bags," Avinyan stated.
