Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan Makes a Statement

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has addressed opinions regarding the need for multiple guarantors in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He made these remarks during a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Poland.

“There is much talk about the established peace with Azerbaijan, suggesting that there should be more than one guarantor, and so on and so forth. In my opinion, this stems from our old mentality, because we forget that we have, de jure, a recorded security guarantor. When faced with regional issues, our primary reactions have been approximately the following: whom should we call? This has been our first, second, third, and fourth reaction, but at one point we realized that this approach is incorrect. The main political change that has occurred among us is that we have understood that the problem is ours, and we are the owners of our problem.

Therefore, it is our responsibility to solve that problem. We have gone ahead and resolved our issues, even doubling, sometimes tripling, quadrupling, or even decoupling our pain, because we have realized that the pain is ours, and we must heal it, since that pain does not hurt others; it hurts us. Hence, our perception is that we are our own guarantor, with the ability to understand the world, the situation, and our problems and to find solutions to our problems,” the Prime Minister stated.
