Iran's Foreign Ministry Confirms New Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Has Been Injured
Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has been injured. This was confirmed by Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
"He has an injury, but everything is fine. I do not know when he will give his first speech," he stated.
The Iranian diplomat also noted that there were "three or four candidates" vying for the position of Supreme Leader, but the majority of the Assembly of Experts chose Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Israeli Channel 12 first reported on Mojtaba Khamenei's injury on March 7, citing sources. According to them, Ali Khamenei's son was injured on the first day of the U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran, which occurred on February 28.
His current whereabouts are unknown. Earlier, media outlets also reported that during the first attack against Iran, both Mojtaba's mother, wife, and daughter were killed alongside his father.
