A Decision Has Been Made to Arrest Alexander Sargsyan, Brother of Serzh Sargsyan
The Anti-Corruption Court has made a decision to arrest Alexander Sargsyan, the brother of Armenia's third president, Serzh Sargsyan. The information was confirmed in a conversation with News.am by Arpine Novruzyan, the press secretary of the Anti-Corruption Court, who noted that the investigating body submitted a request for arrest on February 24. Judge Sarkis Petrosyan approved the request.
“On February 24, 2026, the investigating body submitted a request to the court to impose arrest as a measure of restraint. On the same day, considering the conditions under which the whereabouts of the accused are unknown, the court assessed the grounds for preventing flight as significant and approved the request, applying arrest. The issue of arrest will be reconsidered by the court upon discovery of A. Sargsyan and if he is within the jurisdiction of Armenia,” the court stated.
Alexander Sargsyan is accused of large-scale embezzlement. According to the charges, he is alleged to have committed the offense while serving as the brother of Serzh Sargsyan, who held the position of Minister of Defense from 2000-2007, during the period from 2001 to 2018.
