Middle East Tensions Affect Ukraine, Says Kallas
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is impacting Ukraine’s defense capabilities, according to the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas.
She stated that developments surrounding Iran are having a direct effect on the war in Ukraine. Kallas noted that military operations in the region are depleting the stock of air defense resources available globally.
In her assessment, the systems currently needed by Ukraine are being redirected to the Middle East. Additionally, supply chain issues are emerging, as these same defensive resources are in high demand by countries in the region.
The head of EU diplomacy also emphasized that the rise in oil prices as a result of the conflict could enhance Russia's financial capabilities, which she believes enables Moscow to continue the war against Ukraine. Meanwhile, she pointed out that, thanks to the experience gained during the war years, Ukraine could assist Gulf countries in defending against drone attacks.
