Drone Attack in Cyprus: Targeting the UK RAF Base
Iranian drones targeted the British RAF Akrotiri military base located in Cyprus. This was reported by the BBC, citing the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD).
According to the Ministry of Defence, the armed forces responded to the attack, which occurred local time around midnight (22:00 GMT). The publication states that there were no casualties from the alleged strike.
“The protection of our forces in the region is at its highest level, and the base has been operational in defense of our personnel,” the MoD's statement said.
It is noteworthy that the incident followed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's announcement that London had agreed to a request from the United States to allow the use of British military bases for “defensive” strikes against Iranian missile facilities. Starmer emphasized that these actions are strictly of a defensive nature aimed at preventing the Iranian missile threat.
