Many Americans Won't Know Unless Told: Baerbock on Greenland
The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated during a public speech that many Americans would not know that "Greenland is also part of the EU territory" unless they are told. Her remarks were quoted by the magazine Focus.
A spokesperson immediately responded, noting that Greenland is not EU territory. Following that, Baerbock attempted to clarify her statement, emphasizing that the island's connection to Denmark, in her view, speaks to the necessity of European structures' involvement and protection.
It is known that Greenland exited the European Community in 1985, which was the predecessor of the European Union. Currently, the island is not an EU member, although it continues to maintain special relations with the union through Denmark.
