Vatican Will Not Participate in Trump’s ‘Council for Peace’

The Vatican will not participate in the ‘Council for Peace’ established by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State of the Holy See.

The council, which Trump intends to lead indefinitely, was initially created to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza but has since had its mandate expanded to transform into a global peacekeeping body. Last month, Pope Leo XIV received an invitation to join this organization.

Parolin stated that the Vatican is ‘confused’ by several provisions of the plan and emphasized the necessity of addressing ‘critical issues.’ He underscored that at the international level, the United Nations should govern crises, a point on which the Holy See insists.

The cardinal pointed out that the Vatican will not participate in the council due to its unique nature, which differs from that of other states.
