France Sets Record for Longest Duration of Rainfall

France has recorded the longest period of continuous rainfall, with 36 consecutive rainy days. According to Météo-France, meteorologists have been continuously documenting this type of precipitation across the country since January 14. The previous record was set in the autumn of 2023, when France had 32 consecutive rainy days.

Météo-France explains that a rainy day is defined as one where the average precipitation nationwide amounts to 1 mm or more. Meanwhile, Storm 'Pedro' has hit France on Wednesday. Meteorologists predict that wind gusts will reach speeds of 90-120 km/h, with coastal areas experiencing gusts of up to 140 km/h. Rainfall is expected to range from 15 to 50 mm.

Currently, four departments are under a 'red' warning, the highest level of weather alert, due to the risks of heavy rain and flooding. An additional 10 departments have issued 'orange' warnings, indicating a higher level of weather danger.
