Armenia Announces Possibility of Border Opening: Khandanian
Armenia announces that the reopening of borders and the reoperation of the Gyumri-Kars railway is possible. This was stated by the Deputy of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction of the National Assembly, Sargis Khandanian, during a meeting with students on the topic of opportunities provided by the ‘TRIP’ project initiated by the Restart civil-youth foundation.
Speaking about the military presence of other countries in Armenia, Khandanian emphasized that the Republic of Armenia is not interested in the deployment of military forces from other states on its territory. “On the contrary, Armenia, especially along the borders, has based its entire vision for the development of its security defense strategy on its own forces,” he said.
Addressing the question of whether a peace treaty could be signed before the parliamentary elections, the deputy responded, “In a month it will be a year since the text of the peace agreement has been agreed, placed on the table, and preliminary signatures have been given. Therefore, we want to do it as soon as possible — why not before the elections? Armenia is willing and has given its consent to that text; the rest depends on Azerbaijan, this is one of the issues where Armenia is 100% ready.”
