Russia Threatens to Use Navy in Case of Blockade in the Baltic States
Russia threatens to use its navy in the event of a blockade in the Baltic states. NATO plans to blockade the Kaliningrad region and restrict Russia's access to the seas “at least in the Atlantic area,” stated Nikolai Patrushev, the assistant to the President of Russia. If the situation cannot be resolved diplomatically, “the blockade will be breached and eliminated by the naval fleet,” he emphasized.
According to Patrushev, NATO is “effectively creating a multinational force aimed at offensive actions,” while Finland is enhancing its naval forces with offensive weaponry on corvettes that are “fully accessible” to Russia's northwest regions.
