Armenia is not their 'store': Leave us alone, says Alen Simonyan
Prominent diaspora figures Nubar Afeyan, Anthony Barsamyan, Lord Ara Darzi, Erik Esrailian, Vahe Gabrielyan, Vache Manukyan, Joseph Ughurlian, and Perch Sedrakyan issued a statement urging the government not to interfere in the Church's internal affairs.
Today, the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, addressed this statement and stated that they will resist. According to Simonyan, benefactors previously donated money and gifts to the Armenian leadership and believed that Armenia was their 'store.'
“Since 2018, there is no one who can claim that we have received any gifts from them or owe them anything. I say let them sit still and not meddle in the fields of the sovereignty, independence, and autonomy of the Republic of Armenia; the master of Armenia is the people,” said the member of the ruling party.
Alen Simonyan assures that today in Armenia, anyone can say whatever they want without facing punishment. “Until the moment they violate the law,” he said in a conversation with reporters.
According to the ruling party member, the freedom of speech that exists in Armenia today is a dream. “This is your freedom,” he added.
