AI Utilized by Military During Maduro's Arrest, WSJ Reports
During a U.S. special operation to arrest Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, military personnel employed artificial intelligence, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources.
According to the publication, the Pentagon utilized Anthropic's Claude AI tool for the planning and execution of the airstrikes conducted on January 3 in Caracas. The operation aimed at the Venezuelan president and his wife involved bombarding several targets in the capital.
The usage of Claude was made possible through a contract with Palantir Technologies, whose tools are widely employed by the Pentagon and federal law enforcement agencies.
An Anthropic spokesperson declined to comment on whether Claude was used in specific operations, emphasizing that any use of the model, whether by the private sector or government bodies, must comply with the company's policy. The Pentagon also refused to comment.
