Review of Mandatory Certification Cases for Contractual Servicemen

In the upcoming session of the Armenian National Assembly's eighth convocation, the government's draft bill on amending the Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen is being discussed for the first reading. Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan has presented that the procedures for the mandatory certification of contractual servicemen are being revised.

Servicemen participating in the 'Defender of the Fatherland' program will be considered certified based on the results of the final exams of the training phase, provided they are assigned to a relevant position. Servicemen who have graduated from a military educational institution and are appointed to command positions will also be regarded as certified based on their final exam results.

The additional payment will be calculated from the date of appointment to the position. According to the Minister, more than 4,000 servicemen have joined contractual service under the 'Defender of the Fatherland' program.

It is proposed that upon signing a two-year contract after the initial five-year contract, a premium of 1.5 million drams will be allocated, while for a five-year contract, the premium will amount to 5 million drams upon completion of the contract.

The draft bill has been approved by the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security.
