Azerbaijan Protests Zatulin's Statement on Armenian Citizens' Judicial Decisions

On February 6, 2026, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan, Mikhail Yevdokimov, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the Ministry, during the meeting with the Russian ambassador, a strong protest was expressed regarding the February 5 statement by Konstantin Zatulin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma's Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration, and Relations with Compatriots, and a member of the ruling "United Russia" party, concerning judicial decisions against Armenian citizens.

A corresponding note was presented to the Russian side. Zatulin's statement was strongly condemned for its long-standing opposition to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, openly supporting separatism, and for attempts to distort judicial decisions against Armenian citizens who were found guilty and convicted of war crimes due to military aggression by Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as other crimes against peace and humanity.

During the meeting, the Russian side was urged to take appropriate measures to prevent the destructive activities of individuals like Zatulin, who are trying to undermine peace and stability in the region, as well as the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
