The Ministry of Internal Affairs to Automatically Receive Data from 'Armed' to Suspend Driving Rights

The Permanent Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly of Armenia has approved the draft amendments to the law on 'Road Traffic Safety'.

“I would like to draw your attention to the draft on amending the law on 'Road Traffic Safety' at its first reading. The changes primarily concern the article on the suspension of driving rights,” said Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan.

“The essence is as follows: we have several grounds for suspending an individual's right to drive a vehicle. These include being recognized as incapacitated, a court or competent authority's act entered into force for deprivation of rights, the individual's death, and a fourth ground being the health authority's conclusion regarding diseases related to the use of narcotics or psychotropic substances.”

“We have discussed and coordinated our proposal with our colleagues from the Ministry of Health, and at the moment when the 'Armed' system registers that an individual has restrictions related to drugs or mental health that should lead to the suspension of driving rights, the Ministry of Internal Affairs' electronic registry will automatically receive the information from the health care system, and the individual's right to drive will be suspended. This is the whole process,” added Ghazaryan.
