Stable Decrease in Traffic Accident Mortality Recorded in Armenia Over the Last Two Years: Ministry of Internal Affairs

Each prevented incident is a saved life, and every life is an invaluable asset. With this awareness and commitment to ensuring public safety, the police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) operate in a 24/7 mode to reduce and eliminate fatalities resulting from traffic accidents. This was reported by the MIA.

To achieve desirable results, the Ministry continuously improves the legislative framework as the policymaking authority. Regularly reinforced services, targeted administrations, and various awareness campaigns are conducted to promote behavioral changes in the public, emphasizing responsibility, vigilance, and sobriety.

Effective solutions depend on both technical and human factors and require an inclusive and institutional approach with active public participation. In 2014, when 482,876 vehicles were registered in the country, 297 people died as a result of traffic accidents. Meanwhile, in 2025, with around 1 million registered vehicles, the number of fatalities was 283, which is a decrease of 50 compared to the previous year, while in 2024, it decreased by 45 compared to 2023. Thus, during 2024-2025, 95 lives were saved on the country's roads.

It is evident that the establishment of a patrol service, as one of the core areas of the MIA, has significantly increased control over road traffic. Fatal traffic accidents are primarily due to speeding. In 2014, there were 28,802 cases of speeding recorded; in 2024, there were 82,051 cases, and in 2025, 108,576 cases.

In this context, cases of deprivation of the right to drive vehicles also have preventive significance, and their number has significantly increased. If in 2014, 90 individuals were deprived of their driving rights, in 2024, this number increased to 5,696, while in 2025, it was 5,435.

Traffic safety requires a comprehensive approach, including enhancing law enforcement control, raising awareness among drivers and pedestrians, and implementing preventive and educational programs. Only this way can accidents be reduced, a safer environment created, and the lives and health of citizens preserved.
