It Will Be Heated Today: 'Hraparak'

According to 'Hraparak', tension is anticipated today in the National Assembly’s legal committee where an opposition-government exchange of fire is expected. The discussion will revolve around the draft declaration concerning political prisoners authored by the 'Hayastan' alliance. It is noteworthy that hearings were also held in the National Assembly on this topic last November.

The draft states: 'Democracy in Armenia is regressing, and the unprecedented number of political prisoners is a manifestation of this regression.' The basis for the declaration is the documented decline of democracy in Armenia, which includes gross violations of freedom of speech, conscience, gatherings, and other liberties, pressure on the media, fabricated criminal cases, and selective prosecution against political figures and citizens with differing views.

Our sources indicate that government representatives are prepared for a vigorous battle and will present a large arsenal during the discussion to decisively refute the opposition’s arguments. Additionally, the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe, who has been in Armenia since yesterday, will be present for the discussions, while the Republican Party is scheduled to hold a rally near the National Assembly at noon today.
