Deadline for Mandatory Electronic Signature Requirements May Be Reassessed: Torosyan
We are assessing the situation and evaluating how acute it is, and we are currently developing relevant solutions. We will finalize our decision in the coming days. This was stated by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan during a press briefing, addressing the mandatory requirement for an electronic signature when being hired, which has come into effect this year.
“There is an important factor. Since we are implementing a new system for identification cards and passports, which is expected to be launched later this year, an issue arises regarding the balance between the ID cards currently being issued and those that will be issued in the future. Consequently, we may find solutions because even if these devices work around the clock now, they have limited capacity, and later, there will be a need to transition to the new ones.
Due to that and several other reasons, it is possible that we will revise the deadlines, that is, reassess the implementation deadlines of the law, so that no one is deprived of their right to work for this reason, since new employment contracts should now be electronic,” he stated.
The minister also informed that there are about 200,000 citizens who do not have an electronic signature, and efforts need to be made to ensure that the transition is “smooth.”
“There is also an intention to leave everything optional. But these are preliminary discussions; we will announce the final decision in the coming days,” he said.
