Libyan Former Leader's Son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi Killed
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the 53-year-old son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed by armed unknown assailants at his home, according to sources close to the political figure.
The incident reportedly took place in the city of Zintan, located about 160 km southwest of Tripoli. According to Gaddafi's associates, four armed individuals stormed his home and opened fire on him during a 'direct confrontation.'
A consultant for Gaddafi informed Libyan television that the assailants had first disabled the surveillance systems before killing Saif al-Islam.
The information has also been confirmed by the AFP agency and Marcel Chekaldin, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi's lawyer. He stated that it is currently unknown who is behind the murder and what motives the attackers may have had. At the same time, the lawyer noted that about ten days ago, a close ally of Gaddafi informed him of serious security concerns.
