Armenia May Start Exporting Goods to Azerbaijan in 1-2 Months, Babken Tunyan

Armenia may begin exporting goods to Azerbaijan within 1 to 2 months. This was stated by Babken Tunyan, a member of the ‘Civil Contract’ party, in response to a question regarding why unilateral imports are being conducted via Azerbaijani territory.

According to him, the discussion pertains to trade not directly with Azerbaijan, but with another country through Azerbaijani territory. Tunyan noted that since Azerbaijan is a neighboring country, trade naturally occurs through the countries that share borders. He emphasized that such opportunities did not exist before, but they are available now.

The MP added that there will also be imports in the opposite direction, depending on market demand. He mentioned that there will be goods for which demand will arise, leading to exports. Tunyan pointed out that the government does not decide what should be imported or exported, and trade is formed on the basis of mutual interest.

He noted that in the coming month or two, there may also be movement in the opposite direction, particularly regarding metallic and aluminum products, as well as some types of food products.

Tunyan mentioned that if a more affordable product is offered, providing a beneficial price-quality ratio, businesses will decide on its acquisition themselves.

It is noted that in November 2025, a train loaded with Russian wheat reached Armenia, passing through Azerbaijani and Georgian territories. The Russian Ministry of Transport has announced plans to send an additional 132 wagons of wheat through a new railway route via Azerbaijan to Armenia by the end of January 2026.

On January 9, Azerbaijani media reported on the shipment of the second batch of oil products from Baku to Armenia. The first batch, comprising 1,300 tons of A95 gasoline, was imported from Azerbaijan to Armenia on December 19, 2025, through the Ayroum station at the Armenia-Georgia border. On February 3, the railway wagons loaded with grains sent from Russia through Azerbaijani territory reached Armenia.
