Transfer of Syrians is Connected to the Process of Relations with Turkey, Says Surbuhi Galayan

The option of transferring Syrians has been chosen in the context of improving relations with Turkey. This was stated by the Minister of Justice of Armenia, Surbuhi Galayan, during a press conference while responding to a question about the legal basis and the agreements under which the transfer was carried out, as well as whether there had been any applications regarding the exchange.

According to the Minister, the individuals who were transferred did so under the condition that they would continue to serve their sentences. She noted that the issue was regulated within the framework of the law on legal assistance in criminal proceedings, which allows for the process to be carried out based on mutuality, considering the existing capabilities.

Galayan added that the transfer was also aimed at improving relations with Syria. She mentioned that various options for the transfer were discussed, but this particular route was chosen.

Regarding why the transfer was conducted through Turkey, the Minister pointed out that there are no legal barriers, and it is possible to carry out the transfer through any state.
