We continue negotiations with the Russian side regarding the railway: Khudatyan
We continue negotiations with the Russian side regarding the railway: Our understanding is that we will carry out the work on the sections you mentioned jointly with the Russian side, that is, through them. This was stated by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan during a press conference.
"I will speak at the concluding stage, but after the Prime Minister's statement, we continue to operate in the same direction. We have no new changes and we expect that we will not have any. We will have a final decision on this matter, but at this moment we still do not have it," he noted.
Khudatyan announced that the work on the Nrnadzor-Shvanidzor road was originally scheduled to be completed by March 2026 and added that it is currently possible to reach Nrnadzor via that road, although construction work is ongoing and it is not recommended to travel.
"Unfortunately, Nrnadzor has never had a road connecting it to Meghri, and the road was intended for traffic as a railway, it was plundered at that time. Now we are also considering the area for the railway construction there. As much as the railway area has been plundered, we consider it as a railway," he said.
According to the Minister, the work on the Nrnadzor road is progressing at a rapid pace, and this year the works of the first phase will be completed.
It should be noted that earlier, Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of restoring the railway sections of Ijevan, Yeraskh, and Akhuryan for unblocking, which will connect Armenia with Azerbaijan, the main part of Azerbaijan - Nakhchivan, and Turkey. The Prime Minister stated that the Armenian government is ready to restore railway infrastructure with state funds if Russia does not do so in a timely manner, emphasizing that they are not only willing but also want to cooperate with Russian partners to deepen cooperation on the topic of unblocking regional routes.
