Medvedev Suggests Learning Economics from North Korea

The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, has stated that North Korea can serve as an example of how to mobilize an economy in a short time even under limited resources and external pressure.

According to Medvedev, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has effectively organized its economic system while operating under "limited possibilities" and in conditions of "complete blockade." He noted that the DPRK's experience demonstrates that a strict model of state governance can ensure rapid concentration and results in strategic sectors.

He particularly highlighted North Korea's defense industry, mentioning that the country has developed a serious military-industrial complex that, in his words, "commands a great deal of respect." Medvedev did not elaborate on the specific mechanisms he believes should be applied by other countries but emphasized that the DPRK's example could be interesting from the perspective of studying economic mobilization models.
