EU Plans to Ban Imports of Russian Copper and Platinum Group Metals

The European Union is considering a ban on the import of copper and platinum group metals, including iridium, rhodium, and platinum from Russia, as part of a new package of sanctions against Moscow. This information was reported by Bloomberg, citing its sources.

According to the publication, the corresponding decision must be agreed upon by all EU member states. It is expected that the new package of restrictions could be approved in February 2026.

It is noted that if the initiative is implemented, it would represent yet another tightening of sanctions imposed by the EU on Russia's metal exports and would particularly impact the supply of strategically significant raw materials.
