Former South Korean Prime Minister Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison

Former South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for his role in a rebellion case. Investigators determined that he played a key role in supporting the leader of the conspiracy, referring to former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

At the time, Han Duck-soo served as Prime Minister and later temporarily fulfilled presidential duties. The court's ruling was harsher than what the prosecution had requested; prosecutors had sought a 15-year prison sentence for Han Duck-soo.

It is noted that former President Yoon Suk-yeol is currently linked to eight criminal cases, four of which are related to the declaration of martial law in South Korea. This pertains to events that occurred in December 2024 when martial law was imposed, violating the constitution. A few hours later, the parliament revoked that decision and called for impeachment. Following that, Yoon Suk-yeol was removed from office and delivered to the court.

On January 16, a verdict was issued against the former leader, sentencing him to five years in prison for obstructing arrest in January 2025. It is expected that a verdict concerning Yoon Suk-yeol in the rebellion case may be announced in early February.
