Armenia Among Countries with Suspended US Immigration Visas
As of January 21, a decision by the US authorities has come into effect to indefinitely halt the final processing of immigration visa applications for citizens of 75 countries. This restriction applies to several nations across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe, including Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and Uzbekistan.
The announcement was initially made on January 14 through a statement published on the official website of the US Department of State. It was adopted as part of the US government's review of its internal rules for issuing immigration visas.
The US Department of State has noted that the changes target citizens of so-called “high-risk countries.” According to the US side, the aim is to ensure that migrants arriving in the US do not exploit social benefits and do not become a burden on society.
At the same time, it is mentioned that applicants can continue to submit visa applications and attend interviews and meetings; however, the process will not reach the final stage of visa issuance. The restriction applies only to immigration visas, specifically for work or family reunification purposes. Non-immigrant visas—such as student, tourist, and business visas—will continue to be issued as before.
