The Opening of Borders Will Be the Next Logical Step in Developing Relations: Armenian President
During a panel discussion on the topic of “Defining the Economic Identity of Eurasia” at the Economic Forum in Davos, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan noted that the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia have already shown political will and courage to achieve peace. He remarked that just one or two years ago, such a situation would have seemed unbelievable, but today the parties are in a fundamentally new phase of their relationship.
“Currently, cargo from Azerbaijan is transiting through Georgia to Armenia, but in the future, direct cargo transportation between Baku and Yerevan is possible. This will allow us to overcome the issues that arose in the 1990s and focus on the future,” he stated.
Khachaturyan also mentioned that the agreements reached are based on certain principles such as mutual respect for territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction. He expressed confidence that the opening of borders will be the next logical step in the development of relations.
