Elon Musk Sues ChatGPT Developer for Over $100 Billion: Reuters

Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against the developer of ChatGPT, demanding more than $100 billion.

The entrepreneur is seeking up to $134 billion from OpenAI and Microsoft, claiming he is entitled to "unjust enrichment" that the companies have received thanks to his early support. The lawsuit was filed in federal court on Friday.

According to Musk, OpenAI has generated between $65.5 billion and $109.4 billion from the startup since his investments in 2015, while Microsoft has made between $13.3 billion and $25.1 billion. The lawsuit is directed at both companies, with trial set to begin in April.

"Without Elon Musk, OpenAI would not exist. He provided much of the initial funding (60% of the seed capital or approximately $38 million) and shared his expertise and knowledge about scaling the business," said Musk’s chief attorney Stephen Molon to Reuters.

OpenAI called Musk's demand "baseless" and part of a "malicious campaign" against the company. Microsoft declined to comment.
