Clashes Erupt in Berlin Before Football Match, Over 50 Injured

Before the Second Bundesliga football match between Berlin's Hertha and Gelsenkirchen's Schalke 04, civil disorder broke out. According to TASS, at least 31 fans and 21 law enforcement personnel have been injured.

“Before the start of the match, certain groups of fans attacked our personnel,” reported the Berlin police. Objects, including parts of a fence, were thrown at law enforcement officers near the entrance to the Olympic Stadium from the eastern stand. The police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the aggressive fans.

“At this point, 21 personnel members and 31 fans have been injured,” the statement said. The police have arrested several individuals.
