New Factors Emerge in Iran-Israel Tensions: Vardan Voskanian
During this phase of tension surrounding Iran, two extremely important new factors have emerged. This was stated by Iranian studies expert Vardan Voskanian.
“First, Israel's behavior has been remarkably restrained. Just a few days ago, it was discussed in the Israeli government meeting that Israeli officials should refrain from making statements that could provoke Iran into retaliatory strikes. It is evident that Tel Aviv does not want to become a target in someone else's war, and on the other hand, rumors suggest that a certain understanding between Iran and Israel has been reached, mediated by Russia.
Another factor is likely influencing this process. If Israel has been able to significantly weaken the core of resistance created by Iran, following the 12-day war and recent protests, Iran has notably neutralized the Israeli espionage network within its own borders, establishing a certain balance.
The second important aspect is Turkey’s almost overt support for Iran. While previous protests drew critical remarks from Ankara, Foreign Minister Fidan’s press conference today essentially signaled support for Tehran, as Turkey is actively opposing any attack against Iran and is pursuing diplomacy between the parties.
At first glance, all of this may not seem very significant, but in reality, these are the seeds that could give rise to interesting developments leading to a warming of Iran-Turkey relations and an unannounced decrease in tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv.”
