Armenian Citizens Stranded at Warsaw Airport Unable to Return to Yerevan

Due to the cancellation of a flight by the Polish airline LOT, passengers stranded at Warsaw Airport are still unable to return to Yerevan. Anahit Danielyan, one of the passengers on the flight, shared this information during a conversation with a reporter from NEWS.am on January 15.

She reported that the airplane had departed from the USA on January 13, with the flight lasting 8 hours. The aircraft successfully arrived in Warsaw, and after a 9-hour wait, passengers underwent final checks.

According to her, after that, people were made to wait for three hours inside the airplane without any demands or clear explanations, with only occasional announcements about the need to clear the wings of snow. She added that after some time, the passengers were taken out of the plane, repeating that the reason was the weather conditions and promising to resolve the issue.

“Passengers exited the aircraft and waited for another six hours, but no solutions were proposed. We were informed that an airline manager would approach us at 6 AM, but he arrived at 8 AM, after people raised their voices. He reiterated that representatives of the airline are trying to find solutions, suggesting that passengers could travel in pairs on different flights to Yerevan,” she noted.

Danielyan clarified that about 40 citizens had chosen to travel to other countries to return to Yerevan via connecting flights.

“The other passengers, about 30 people including us, do not have Schengen visas, and we cannot leave the transit area. We were offered to fly to Cairo, then Doha, and from there to Yerevan. This option would take about two days. Another suggestion was to remain in the airport until the evening of January 17 and then fly to Yerevan. There was also an alternative for remaining passengers to purchase their own tickets to Georgia, with the promise that the airline would reimburse the costs later. However, they do not intend to cover the travel expenses from Georgia to Armenia. Meanwhile, passengers have not been provided with proper food or water. Among the travelers are elderly sick people and small children,” she emphasized.
