Father Asoghik Abbot Karapetyan Invited for Questioning by the RA Investigative Committee
The director of the Museums and Archives of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Father Asoghik Abbot Karapetyan, has been invited for questioning by the RA Investigative Committee this morning, according to information received by the "Zhoghovurd" daily.
The questioning is reportedly related to the information circulating in the media about the Sacred Geghard. According to reports, in 2018, it became known that a piece of the Sacred Geghard was sold to the governor of St. Petersburg. In response to these claims, Father Asoghik issued a public statement, saying, "In these holy days, when we should all wholeheartedly endure the great and wonderful mystery of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, divisive and blasphemous individuals have emerged, sowing temptation and confusion by spreading complete falsehood and deceit. Now, the time has come for the holy relics of the Armenian Church, particularly the God-cherished Sacred Geghard, to be accused of being sold, divided, or given to someone. It is clear whose wicked and dark thoughts are behind this latest abomination, a condemnable act by immoral and rebellious clerics and their misguided followers... Let it be known once again to all (as is well known to those still in order and those already defrocked slanderers) that all the sanctities and relics of the Mother See are preserved safely and sacredly in the Treasury of Holy Etchmiadzin with utmost responsibility."
It appears that there is an investigation at the RA Investigative Committee regarding the information suggesting that a part of the Sacred Geghard was sold to the governor of St. Petersburg, for which Father Asoghik Abbot Karapetyan has been invited for questioning.
