Denmark Sends Military Equipment and Command Personnel to Greenland
The Danish Ministry of Defense has dispatched military equipment and forward command personnel to Greenland in preparation for the potential deployment of a larger troop presence. This information was reported by Danish public radio, citing security agency sources. According to Vedomosti, the primary mission of the deployed forward unit is to ensure logistical and infrastructural readiness for receiving the main forces.
This move is seen as a preliminary phase in the context of expanding military presence in the region.
Additionally, a Challenger-type military transport aircraft belonging to the Danish Air Force has recently landed at the capital's airport in Greenland. Although it has not been officially stated that the flight is related to strengthening the island’s defense, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen mentioned plans to increase permanent military presence in the region following a closed briefing with the parliamentary committee.
He noted that Denmark intends to expand its presence in Greenland not only with its own armed forces but also with the participation of partner countries, responding to challenges emerging in the Arctic.
At the same time, international media has reported that the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland plan to discuss political initiatives concerning the island during talks with the U.S. administration.
