The Mother See Issues a Statement
The alignment of clergy with the so-called Armenian Church reform program is unacceptable and condemnable, as it clearly leads to a schism within the Church and has no connection to the genuine reform of the Church. This was stated by the information system of the Mother See in response to a query from NEWS.am regarding the assessment of the announcements made by several clergy members concerning their joining the so-called reform program.
"The reform of the Church has always been on the Church's agenda, especially in the last decades. The clergy are well aware of the efforts that have been made in this direction and the relevant committees that have been working to present appropriate documents for the upcoming National-Church Assembly aimed at reform. The reform of the Church is not within the jurisdiction of state officials and cannot be conducted under state pressure or external coercion. The ongoing processes are gross violations of both the Constitution of Armenia and the sovereignty and rights of the Church," said the Mother See.
