We Have Seen an Increase in Citizenship Applications in Recent Months: Torosyan

Our compatriots should obtain Armenian citizenship. We see the issue mainly in the fact that many do not want to obtain it. I cannot overlook the manipulations made by various circles encouraging our compatriots not to acquire this citizenship. Not obtaining citizenship, for example, is because citizenship means not only rights but also duties, including serving in the Armenian Armed Forces. These manipulations have led to a situation where not everyone has obtained citizenship yet.

This was stated during a press conference by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan. “In recent months, we have seen an increase in citizenship applications, and we need to encourage this to continue. I assure you that the established peace will contribute to our compatriots submitting more applications for citizenship. The circumstance of avoiding military service, in my impression, should weaken,” he noted.

Addressing the financial aspect, Arsen Torosyan mentioned that they have several types of compensation amounts: 3, 4, 5 million drams, and those citizens who wish to acquire housing can use this money for that purpose. “We want people to buy homes rather than prefer long-term rental programs. We will promote the establishment of small businesses for those citizens who have become beneficiaries of the housing program,” he added.
