Starmer on Conditions for Sending Troops to Ukraine
The United Kingdom can only send troops to Ukraine after a ceasefire is established and with the corresponding approval of the British Parliament. This was announced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a speech in Parliament.
According to him, during discussions yesterday with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the parties agreed on a statement regarding the intent to deploy forces in Ukraine, contingent upon the signing of a peace agreement.
Starmer mentioned that details of the announcement would be made public at the earliest opportunity. He emphasized that he would regularly inform the House of Commons as the situation develops, and that if the question of deploying British troops arises based on the signed document, it will be put to a vote in Parliament.
The Prime Minister also responded to lawmakers' questions regarding the potential number of troops to be sent to Ukraine. He stated that the size of the British contingent would be determined later, during the implementation of the so-called 'volunteers coalition' plans and would again be presented to the House of Commons for discussion.
