Clashes in Southwestern Iran Result in Casualties Among Police
Iranian media reports indicate that clashes between protesters and police in the city of Lordegan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, have led to the deaths of two law enforcement officers and injuries to at least 30 others. This information was reported by the Fars news agency.
According to the agency, around 10 a.m. on January 7, a group of traders and shopkeepers closed their shops and began to gather, holding rallies and chanting slogans, which resulted in a rapid escalation of the situation. It is noted that the number of participants in the march was estimated at about 300 individuals.
“During the clashes, protesters damaged the governor's office and several other administrative buildings,” the agency reported.
It is mentioned that in the capital city of Tehran, traders have been staging protests since December 29 in response to the sharp devaluation of the Iranian rial. Some Iranian media outlets have indicated that the scale of the protests has expanded to include cities across various provinces of the country.
The head of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Farzin, has already resigned, and Abdolnasser Hemmati has been appointed as his successor. In several cities, the protests have escalated into clashes with the police and have been accompanied by slogans directed against the current political regime. Reports have emerged of casualties among both security forces and protesters.
