Petrosyan on the Vardashen Substation and New Year's Power Outages
Last year, at midnight on New Year's Eve, approximately 32,000 subscribers experienced power outages in our republic, while this year the number was reduced to 9,200, nearly four times less. This situation was fetishized mainly because the media and political circles were more focused on the distribution grid’s problems.
This was stated by the interim director of the electricity distribution company (HETC), Romanos Petrosyan, during a conversation with journalists.
“Naturally, I ask for the forgiveness of our citizens and subscribers, and I apologize on behalf of the HETC for the inconveniences caused. But you all realize how poor, worn-out, and unsatisfactory the infrastructure of Armenia's electrical networks is. Due to this situation, as well as the significant increase in electricity consumption in recent times, we have experienced emergency conditions in certain substations,” said Petrosyan.
Speaking about the Vardashen substation, Romanos Petrosyan mentioned that the volume of consumption had risen, and the power outage was related to that. “We have conducted enormous work for 48-52 consecutive hours to restore the outages,” he added.
Addressing the issue of HETC employees not answering calls, Romanos Petrosyan stated that it is not right to target HETC staff, as they cannot handle several thousand calls simultaneously.
