Armenia Ranks 12th Among Countries Whose Immigrants Receive the Most Public Assistance in the U.S.
Armenia ranks 12th among the countries with the highest percentage of immigrants receiving public assistance in the United States, according to data published on former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform. The list, titled “Social Assistance Recipients by Country of Origin,” presents data on the share of immigrant families receiving public aid in the U.S. from 120 countries.
In this ranking, Armenia occupies the 12th position with a percentage of 69.3%, placing it high on the list. However, the source of the statistical data used for these calculations is not mentioned in Trump’s list.
For regional comparison, the list also notes that the share of immigrant families receiving public assistance from Azerbaijan in the U.S. is 37.8%. The report states that Bhutan tops the list, where more than 81.4% of immigrant families receive public aid. High percentages were also recorded in Yemen (75.2%), Somalia (71.9%), Afghanistan (68.1%), and the Dominican Republic (68.1%).
Overall, the countries at the top of the list have low-income levels and limited economic integration opportunities for migrants in the early stages of adaptation. Lower usage rates of social assistance have been recorded among immigrants from Saudi Arabia (25.7%), Israel (25.9%), Argentina (26.2%), and several European and East Asian countries, which analysts believe reflect higher average income and employment levels in these groups.
The publication of this ranking coincides with Donald Trump’s increasingly decisive rhetoric on immigration, as he has repeatedly raised concerns about the burden of immigration on the U.S. social system. Armenia’s 12th place may again draw attention to the socio-economic profile of the Armenian diaspora in the U.S. and its integration into the labor market.
