Extensive Anti-Terror Operations in Turkey: Arrests Made
Turkey has conducted extensive anti-terror operations resulting in the arrest of over 100 individuals, who are suspected of having ties to the Islamic State terrorist organization (which is banned in several countries). This information was reported by TRT Haber.
According to official sources, the arrests were made in Istanbul and Ankara. Turkish law enforcement agencies suggested that the suspects were allegedly preparing to carry out terrorist attacks during the New Year celebrations. A total of 110 people were arrested in Istanbul, while 17 were taken into custody in the capital, Ankara.
The Istanbul Prosecutor's Office stated that at least 40 of the arrestees are linked to the group whose members had recently attacked police officers in Yalova province. Local media reported that during the attempted arrests there, the suspects opened fire on law enforcement officials.
It was noted that three police officers were killed during the incident in Yalova. The simultaneous special operations carried out in Istanbul and Ankara were planned following this incident.
