Zelensky Talks with Whitcoff: Issues Surrounding Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Remain Unresolved
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with U.S. special envoy Steve Whitcoff, according to Ruslan Umierov, head of Ukraine’s negotiating team, who announced this on the social media platform X.
Umierov stated that the Ukrainian negotiation team spoke with Whitcoff while en route to Ukraine, with Zelensky joining the conversation. “The main issue is coordinating further communications and actions. The work is intense and meaningful; we continue to consult and work on the documentation points almost every day,” Umierov noted.
He also added that Ukraine “maintains constant communication with European national security advisers.” Ukrainian negotiators have agreed to upcoming meetings.
On December 28, U.S. President Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and met with Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida to discuss the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict. Ultimately, the American leader expressed satisfaction with both conversations. Furthermore, on December 29, Putin and Trump had another phone call, which the White House press office described as “positive.”
According to Zelensky, the most controversial issues regarding the territory and operation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remain unresolved.
