Thailand and Cambodia Reaffirm Commitment to Reinforcing Ceasefire
In Yuxi, Yunnan Province (southwestern China), a successful meeting took place between the foreign ministers of China, Cambodia, and Thailand, as reported by Xinhua. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted that the discussions among the three parties were constructive and effective, leading to several important agreements.
Firstly, all parties must look towards the future and move forward together. The ceasefire agreement was not easily obtained; it cannot be left half-finished, and especially cannot lead to a resurgence of military operations. Secondly, progress must be sustainable and gradual, avoiding any stagnation. The implementation of ceasefire agreements requires constant communication and consultation, and the restoration of bilateral relations must also proceed gradually.
Thirdly, rebuilding mutual trust is extremely important. The conflict has led to a loss of trust, but Cambodia and Thailand are eternal neighbors. There is hope that this meeting in Yunnan will help overcome the estrangement between both sides, serving the interests of the Cambodian and Thai peoples and reflecting the common aspirations of all parties.
Following the trilateral meeting, a press release outlined five main objectives: Cambodia and Thailand will continue to enhance communications, deepen mutual understanding, and gradually solidify the ceasefire; they will resume mutual exchanges and restore political trust; they will aim for the improvement of relations and maintain regional peace.
