Ushakov on Trump and Putin's Conversation

The phone conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place at the initiative of the U.S. President and lasted for 1 hour and 15 minutes, announced Yuri Ushakov, assistant to the Russian President. According to him, Putin presented arguments to Trump regarding the importance of focusing on the understanding reached during their communications and in Anchorage.

The presidents agreed that the temporary ceasefire under the pretext of a referendum only leads to the prolongation of the conflict.

"Trump said he is confident in Russia's desire for a political and diplomatic resolution to the situation. Putin agreed to Trump’s proposal to continue working on a resolution through two specially created working groups on security and economic issues," said Ushakov.

The U.S. leader emphasized the need to halt the war as quickly as possible. Ushakov pointed out that Trump also listened to the Russian assessments regarding the prospects for reaching an agreement.

Trump remarked on the impressive prospects for U.S.-Russia economic cooperation if the conflict in Ukraine comes to an end. The parties exchanged New Year’s greetings and agreed to have another phone call after the Trump-Zelensky meeting.
